HDPE TRANSITION FITTINGS

HDPE, Inc. offers a full product line of transition fittings that provide connectivity between high-density polyethylene and other types of pipe materials. These fittings eliminate the need for labor consuming tie-rods, strapping and/or thrust blocking, keeping the pipe from separating under hydraulic pressure and/or soil movement.

Transition fittings are available in most common pipe sizes. Each transition contains a short segment of high-density polyethylene pipe on one end for joining to the HDPE pipe section. The other end may be composed of a number of different materials from PVC to steel depending on the material to be joined with the high-density polyethylene pipe.

Ductile Iron Transition

This adapter enables DI pipe to be connected to HDPE pipe. The rotating ring gland of this transition adaptor permits the assembly to accommodate any orientation of the boltholes in existing metal MJ pipe or fittings to which it is connected. This design has been adopted for plastic pipe as a simple transition between high-density polyethylene pipe and metal DI pipe.

PVC to HDPE Transition

This adapter enables plain end PVC pipe to be connected to HDPE pipe.

Steel Transitions

This adapter enables plain end steel pipe to be connected to HDPE pipe. These transition fittings have been 100% tested after assembly and are individually serialized. The ends are ordinarily supplied as weld ends with bevel prep and external epoxy. Threaded ends are also available with either internal external epoxy coating or external epoxy coating. Design includes double O-ring seals to insure leak-tight performance. Protective sleeves are available and recommended to avoid undue soil shear at rigid connections.

Case Study: Outfall Treatment

Objective
A Central Florida municipality was experiencing a high level of wasteful nutrient buildup in a major creek and lake. Because of this, algae and other biological growth were threatening the fish and natural ecosystem of these bodies of water. To counter this, they looked for a solution to filter out these nutrients in a manner that had a high environmental impact with a small, more natural appealing footprint.

Solution
The customer turned to a leading environmental engineer who proposed a more environmentally friendly outfall treatment solution utilizing HDPE pipe as the filtration system manifold. HDPE pipe and fittings offered the project superior ability to withstand corrosion and harsh chemicals, ease of use and fabrication and superior flexibility.

Result
Once the system was installed by HDPE, Inc., the results quickly became apparent. Water quality measurements became environmentally satisfactory; algae growth was stabilized and ultimately began to recede. The material cost savings, coupled with the long-term maintenance savings have shown to be a positive factor for the municipal and county budget considerations.
